Psychotherapy for Older Adults
Clients aged 65 and above comprise a heterogeneous group, each with distinct psychological profiles. Psychological ageing is a progressive and highly individual process that may include changes in memory and cognitive processing speed, as well as emotional adaptations to key life transitions such as retirement, bereavement, illness, chronic pain, diminished identity or autonomy, and social isolation. These factors can increase susceptibility to late-life depression, anxiety, and grief.

I employ a variety of evidence-based therapeutic interventions, specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of older adults. The primary objectives are to alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety and grief by fostering resilience, acceptance, emotional regulation, adaptive coping strategies, a sense of purpose, and enhanced social connectivity.

Couples Therapy
Over time, intimate relationships can encounter difficulties such as loss of trust, differing intimacy needs, frequent disagreements, misunderstandings, or major life changes that aren't aligned. To help navigate these issues, I offer flexible, empathetic, and non-judgemental couples therapy that is grounded in evidence-based approaches like the Gottman Method, REBT and CBT. Most sessions involve both partners together, though individual sessions are arranged when required.

Through my approach, couples can develop greater understanding and empathy, enhance their ability to resolve conflict, and strengthen their emotional connection for a healthier, more fulfilling relationship. Occasionally, I also provide support for respectful separations.

Older Drivers
Cognitive ageing may affect functional abilities, including driving—a significant marker of independence and mobility. To address this, I have developed the SMT cognitive screening assessment, which assists in identifying older adults who may safely continue to drive and those for whom alternative transportation may be more appropriate. The SMT has been internationally recognised for its clinical utility. More information specifically about the SMT is available at www.snellgrovemazetask.com.
If you, your general practitioner, or your family have concerns regarding cognitive function and driving safety, I am available to offer professional guidance and support.
5
Veterans and Emergency First Responders
Veterans and Emergency First Responders encounter distinct challenges. They contribute valuable service to our community, often facing complex and demanding situations that can be personally difficult. Through my experience caring for clients at the Repatriation General Hospital and South Australia Police, I have gained unique insights into these challenges.
I offer evidence-based psychotherapy to address psychological impacts that may result from public service, including PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and relationship problems. Seeking help early is crucial for preventing mental health issues, supporting recovery, and restoring work capability and overall functioning.
